Safety network

What is it?

Many doctoral students experience difficulties during their PhD. An experiment failing, a submission to a journal rejected, and a presentation being frustrating are normal and expected during your journey. Being bullied and hating every minute that you spend at work is not normal though. No-one should feel that way and there is help available.

The Safety network represents students and doctoral students in matters concerning the physical and psychosocial environment at KI. Whenever the student is experiencing harassment, discrimination, and/or victimisation, it is the Safety network that gets involved on the student’s side. It ensures that investigations are conducted in an objective manner and the rights of students are not impeded.

Are you experiencing any of the above? Then follow our guide on reporting such behaviours:

Student and Doctoral Safety Representatives (SSOs)

SSOs are student representatives from an undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral level, whose responsibility is to help navigate the system to find solutions to work environment issues. All cases handled by the SSOs are kept confidential under legal obligations.

Chief student safety representative (HSSO)

The HSSO coordinates the activities of the SSOs and cover the departments which lack a safety representative. HSSO is a student representative in Karolinska Institutet’s Work Environment Committee.
