The PhD Information Booklet was written by the Doctoral Students’ Association and contains up-to-date information to help PhD students at KI primarily with common educational and administrative tasks. It can be your comprehensive resource for all information related to your PhD.

Changes in version 5 (May 2026)

The section on ISP (A.3) has been revamped and expanded. We have included a section on editing the ISP as well as a short guide on how to phrase the Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs).
The section on the half-time (A.13) has been expanded.
The section on the defence (A.14) has been expanded.
Where to find help and support (A.17) has been revamped. Our guide on how to report discrimination and harassment can be found in section A.18 Workflow for solving issues.
A whole new section on the Swedish pension system (B.3) has been added.
The section on vacation and public holidays (B.5) has been expanded.
A whole new section on student representation and the student union (B.8) has been added.
A whole new section on KI library support, writing and publishing (B.22) has been added.
The section on career support (B.26) has been updated to reflect a change in the KI Internship programme. Taking the KI Career Skills for Scientists course is no longer required to do an internship.
A whole new section on getting support on migration-related issues (C.8) has been added.
A beautiful new Figure 2 (page 2) that shows a graphical and somewhat comical way the PhD journey.
Numerous additional changes to improve clarity and readability.
