Exciting New Opportunities for Learning Swedish
KI, in collaboration with Folkuniversitetet, is expanding its Swedish language course offerings for international doctoral students and postdocs. This initiative aims to enhance the integration and career prospects of international researchers by providing comprehensive language training.
Course Offerings during Autumn term 2025
During autumn term 2025 international doctoral students and postdocs can enrol in up to two sub-courses, fully funded by the International Staff Services. This change allows for a more in-depth learning experience, covering more of levels A1, A2, B1, B1+, and B2, each consisting of three sub-courses
New Weekend Classes
In addition to the expanded course offerings, Folkuniversitetet is introducing new classes on Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:30. This schedule is designed to accommodate the busy lives of doctoral students and postdocs, providing more flexibility for those who may have weekday commitments
Why Learn Swedish?
While English is widely spoken in Sweden, learning Swedish can significantly enhance one’s ability to integrate into Swedish society and improve career opportunities. Many employers value bilingual or multilingual candidates, and good Swedish skills are often crucial for day-to-day work, teaching, leadership roles, and community interactions.
How to Enrol
Register at www.folkuniversitetet.se/karolinska/ Kindly use your KI e-mail address and Ulla Tunkara as reference if you are doctoral student or postdoc at KI and want to use the special offer. Other KI students and staff are welcome to join, see the fees below. Please note that the International Staff Services only cover the Folkuniversitetet Karolinska Institutet Swedish courses. Any other courses offered by Folkuniversitetet are not included.
Fees:
- Special offer during autumn 2025: two sub-courses free of charge for doctoral students and postdocs at KI
- 1,541 SEK per sub-course if paid by KI department (the ZZ code needed)
- 1,926 SEK per sub-course if paid by yourself
